Internet Week Europe 2011

Internet Week Europe is a festival to celebrate Europe’s thriving internet industry and community.

The European festival builds on the success of the NYC festival, now in its fourth year, which saw the participation of over 200 organisations and drawing over 20,000 people in 2011, including Yahoo!, YouTube, Mashable, AOL, Time Warner, Pepsi, Motorola, The New Museum, New York University and Foursquare.

Celebrating Europe’s thriving digital media industry and community, Internet Week Europe 2011 honours the internet’s open structure by inviting the entire European internet community – from the biggest companies and most prominent luminaries to grassroots organisations, universities and cultural institutions – to participate and programme the festival.

Any organisation making digital and online efforts a key part of their business – from artists and investment banks to startups and meet-ups - can host an event during Internet Week Europe 2011. Events can be anything from conferences, technology demos, panel discussions, educational programming and meet-ups to late-night parties at venues across the city. All participants can add their event to the newly opened official calendar at no cost, and will have their events showcased and promoted as an Internet Week Europe 2011 Official Event Partner. More information and signup for organisations that wish to participate is available at www.internetweekeurope.com.

Internet Week Europe 2011 is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, the organiser of the highly acclaimed sister festival, Internet Week New York.
Poke founders Nicolas Roope and Nick Farnhill, together with David-Michel Davies executive director of IADAS, are the co-chairs of Internet Week Europe 2011.

All organisations are invited to participate in Internet Week Europe. There is no fee.

INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARDS

The INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARDS™, a global programme that recognises inspiring, innovative and creative approaches to sustainability, is inviting entries that demonstrate sustainable innovation across 20 categories before the final deadline this Friday, 16th September 2011. Judged by some of the world’s most influential sustainability experts and media luminaries, including Arianna Huffington, Baroness Barbara Young, David de Rothschild and Sir Crispin Tickell, the Awards are the perfect opportunity to present your sustainability story and be recognised as a genuine visionary on an international platform. http://www.greenawards.com

In its 6th year, this Royal Society of Arts accredited environmental awards scheme looks to showcase those organisations which are demonstrating stellar best practice and setting the industry benchmark for sustainability that can inspire organisations, governments and citizens across geographic boundaries.

“In a finite world, the only way that humanity can sustain economic and social development is through innovation – finding ways to meet our needs at lower cost to the environment. The International Green Awards™ 2011 are a welcome recognition of the diverse forms of innovation required to create genuinely green economics”, commented Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director, European Environment Agency.

There are 20 categories this year including those relating to business leadership and entrepreneurship, energy efficiency, water stewardship, biodiversity, public sector and technology, amongst others. With 2011 marking the UN International Year of Forests, the Awards also include a category dedicated to conservation efforts.
